Positions of Fleece Tape for Automotive Wiring Harness
2026-08-13
Core advantages of fleece tape for automotive wiring harness: noise reduction, vibration damping, wear resistance and prevention of abnormal noise caused by wiring harness friction. It is mainly applied in the passenger compartment (interior of vehicle). It is generally not used in engine compartments or exposed chassis areas exposed to water.
Main application positions inside the vehicle
Instrument panel wiring harness
Inside the instrument panel, there are numerous complex wiring harnesses. Fleece tape is widely wrapped on main harnesses and branch harnesses to avoid abnormal noise from vibration‑induced friction between harnesses and plastic housings.
Door wiring harness (four doors)
Wiring harnesses behind door trim panels, for door panels and window lift motors. It eliminates rustling abnormal noise caused by friction between wiring harnesses and plastic door panels.
Seat wiring harness
Wiring harnesses under and inside seat backs (for seat motors, heating and ventilation systems). Seats move and vibrate frequently; fleece tape provides cushioning, noise reduction and wear resistance.
Roof wiring harness
Wiring harnesses under the headliner (for sunroofs, reading lights and ambient lights). Limited roof space prevents knocking‑induced abnormal noise of wiring harnesses.
Wiring routed inside body pillars and beneath interior floor trims. Harnesses close to sheet metal and plastic parts are wrapped partially with fleece tape for cushioning and noise suppression against vibration impacts.
Harness branches, corners and connector roots
Bends, split points and connector sheath positions are prone to abnormal noise from hard‑soft contact. Local fleece‑tape wrapping provides cushioning and vibration damping.
Areas rarely or never used
Engine compartment: High‑temperature and oily environment. Fleece material absorbs oil easily. High‑temperature‑resistant PVC or polyester fabric tape is normally adopted. Only a small amount may be used locally near the firewall at low‑temperature zones.
Chassis and wheel arch / exterior wiring harness: Exposed to mud and water splash. PVC corrugated tubes and PVC tape are preferred instead of fleece tape.
Quick reference
✅ Fleece tape: Vehicle interior, for noise and rattle prevention
✅ PVC tape: General harness wrapping, engine compartment & ordinary door harnesses
✅ Polyester fabric tape: High‑temperature and wear‑resistant zones in engine compartment
